Rome - Assisi & Pompei - 8 days 

         

   Day 1: Arrival in Rome  

Arrival at Rome  airport – private transfer to your hotel in Rome

Day 2:  Rome 

Breakfast at your hotel and by your own reach St Peter Basilica for the Papal Audience ( The audience is usually held on Wednesday) .

Afternoon proceeding with your guide and private driver  along the Ancient Appian way, you will pass by the Chapel of “ Domine Quo Vadis” before arriving at the Catacombs

Day 3 : Rome

This morning meet your guide for a walking tour of Ancient Rome -  arrival at Piazza Venezia, then we continue on foot to th famous Piazza del Campidoglio designed by Michelangelo from where you will have a fantastic view of the Roman Forum. Visit of the Palatine Hill, Coliseum.

Afternoon at leisure

Day 4

Depart for a full day excursion to Assisi, the mystic city of St Francis. Stop in St Maria degli Angelo, to visit its basilica where st francis spent most of his life, with the chapel, called Portiuncola, restored by St Francis. Continue to Assisi at the foot of Mount Subasio. Here you will see the church of St Claire and the townhall square with its people’s palace, Roman temple dedicated to Minerva. Visit the Basilica of St Francis, with the masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue. Return to Rome.

Day 5

This morning after breakfast departure to the Vatican city. Visit of the St Peter Basilica, the largest of all Catholic churches, with its amazing grand and elaborate interior and the Vatican Museum. Admire the Sistine Chapel, with Michelangelo’s masterpiece ceiling and last judgement. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 6 .Pompei, Montecassino Abbey

After breakfast departure to Pompeii, the wealthy town was buried in AD 79 by a massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Guided tour of the excavations.

After lunch , we start a journey back to Rome . Stop en route to visit the Montecassino abbey founded by St Benedict. Return to Rome.

Day 7  Rome

This morning met your local guide for a walking tour of Baroque Rome.

 We start in Piazza di Spagna, then on Trevi Fountain, the wish fountain. You walk through the streets of old Rome, the historic center and we stop at Pantheon. Continue to Piazza Navona with its famous Bernini’s Four River fountain and his eternal rival Borromini’s church of St Agnes .

Rome the eternal city , spills over with art, ancient history, high fashion, and all the food and drink Italy is famous for. There is arguably more see in Rome than any other city in the world, a walk through the back streets of the centre of Rome will reveal masterpieces of virtually every architectural age.

Not to be missed, a climb up to St Peters dome to see the dazzling 360 degree panorama of Rome.

Assisi is located on Mount Subasio and surrounded by holm trees and oaks. When approaching Assisi, visitors cannot help but be astonished by the medieval structure of the town and its walls protecting the heart of Assisi: the Rocca Maggiore and Rocca Minore.

Assisiis popular all over the world for being the birthplace of St Francis, the man who used to speak to animals and God and is still nowadays venerated by many people and followed by many pilgrims.

Dedicated to St Francis is the Basilica that is the major attraction in Assisi. The Basilica has been included in the List of the World Heritage sites and has inside frescoes of the life of St Francis and many other masterpieces.

Assisi has not only a Basilica. Assisi has lots to offer its visitors: like the Church of Santa Chiara (St Clare); the Church of San Pietro (St Peter); the Cathedral of San Rufino (St. Rufinus), the Palazzo dei Priori (Palace of the Priors) which is in the Piazza del Comune (Commune Square), the Palazzo dei Capitano (the Palace of the Captain) and the Temple of Minerva. At the foot of the hill of Assisi, we find also the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli built as protection of the Porziuncola. 

Pompei

You will never find another city in the world dating back 2000 years that survived almost fully intact after the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius on August 29th 79 AD. The city was buried intact up to 1594 when it was partly unearthed by Domenico Fontana during the digging of an underground channel. Only recently more than half of the entire city has been uncovered by Amedeo Maturi in 1924.

Pompei inowadays is considered the archeological pearl of the Campania region and attracts visitors from everywhere in the world.

Here you will visit the famous excavations, the Amphitheatre, the House of Mysteries, the Temple of Apollo, without forgetting the Pontifical Shrine and its Museum dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii.
